A progression route from industry entry to advanced creative work, accredited by City & Guilds.
Level 2 — Diploma for Hairdressing Professionals
The recognised industry entry qualification. Combines technical skills with the consultation, commercial and customer-care knowledge needed to work on a salon floor.
Core units
- Consultation for hair services
- Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
- Cutting hair using a range of techniques
- Colouring and lightening hair
- Styling and finishing hair
- Setting and dressing hair
- Perming hair
- Working safely, effectively and hygienically in a salon
Assessment
- Practical observation in our working main salon
- Written assessments and online theory tests
- Portfolio of evidence built across the year
Duration: 1–2 years depending on attendance pattern. Progression: Level 3 Advanced, apprenticeship, employment as a junior stylist.
Level 3 — Advanced & Creative Hair Professional
For learners who have completed Level 2 and want to develop into advanced colour, cutting and styling work — the standard for professional stylist roles.

- Creative cutting (women's and men's)
- Creative colour correction
- Creative styling and dressing long hair
- Hair extensions
- Fashion-forward trends
- Salon business and promotion
Assessment
A professional discussion is required towards the end of the programme, alongside practical observation and portfolio evidence.
Duration: 12–18 months. Progression: stylist, senior stylist, salon owner, educator.
Kit: a full kit list is provided on enrolment. Many of the items can be sourced through the academy at preferential rates.
